About the Role
Route 1 is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a valued local government client for the position of Business Support Officer. This role is ideal for someone with excellent administrative skills who wants to make a meaningful contribution to their local community.
As a key member of the Business Support team, you will help ensure the smooth delivery of council services by providing high-quality administrative support. Working in one of Kirklees Council’s service areas, you’ll play a critical part in enabling frontline teams to focus on delivering essential public services.
Key Responsibilities
You’ll provide a flexible, efficient, and responsive business support service through a variety of administrative tasks, including:
Word processing and specialist IT administration
Organising meetings, minute taking, and supporting events
Accurate data entry, records management, and file maintenance
Handling cash, invoices, and basic financial processing
Managing supplies and office stock
Producing formatted documents, reports, and statistical information
Responding professionally to enquiries and complaints, and signposting appropriately
Supporting project work and administrative systems
Using IT systems to improve service efficiency and data security
Upholding confidentiality and information governance at all times
Essential Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Proven IT skills, including Word, Excel, and service-specific software
Strong written communication skills and attention to detail
Sound numeracy skills to handle data and basic financial information
NVQ Level 2 in Business and Administration (or equivalent experience)
A proactive, customer-focused attitude
A flexible team player willing to support colleagues across services
Commitment to personal development and learning
Ability to travel independently to different Council sites when required
Desirable
Full UK driving licence and access to a car (reasonable adjustments made where required)
