Generator - Technical Engineer - Wakefield

My client is looking for a dedicated professional to lead and support our mechanical and electrical service operations.

What You’ll Do:

Oversee and lead major mechanical overhaul works as required.

    • Carry out advanced fault finding following escalation from other engineers.

    • Support coordinators by interpreting quotations and assisting with planning complex works.

    • Assist engineers with parts required to complete remedial works on the first visit.

    • Provide on-site and off-site support to engineers, including support for on-call engineers outside normal hours.

    • Conduct site visits to address customer queries, as deemed necessary by service or operations managers.

    • Participate in the implementation and delivery of training and development plans for service staff, including OEM training and train-the-trainer activities.

    • Offer technical support for service quotations and other business areas when needed.

    • Create and distribute relevant service bulletins to keep the team informed.

  • Perform any other duties reasonably required to support the team and business.

Skills needed:

Minimum of 10 years’ experience in electrical power generation, with strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills.

    • Experience specifically with diesel generator sets, AMF, ATS, switchgear, power distribution, and auxiliary equipment. Familiarity with UPS systems and how generators support critical loads is a plus.

    • High technical and commercial awareness.

    • Full computer literacy, including proficiency in CAD, Microsoft Office, CRM, and related software.

    • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients.

    • Passionate about health and safety, ensuring everyone goes home safely from our projects.

    • Excellent communication skills—open, transparent, and effective in all interactions.

    • Resilient, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

    • Curious and committed to staying up-to-date with industry developments, technical changes, and legislation.

    • Collaborative team player with good self-awareness, interpersonal skills, and time management.
