As the owner-operator of Route 1, my aim is simple: run a good, ethical business that clients and candidates trust alike. I've been in recruitment since the '90s — back when the internet was new — working my way from Consultant to Regional Director. I love my job and I love my business. I'm married with three grown-up children and three grandchildren. I'm happy when we have a good week, and happier when we have a better one. Outside work it's mostly sport — F1 and Newcastle United — though my knees have retired me from the 5k and 10k runs I used to find so therapeutic. My first recruitment role involved blue and pink cards, and sales worked out on the back of a fag packet. Fifteen years on, we do things rather better — and it's my goal to make sure every client gets the best service possible from everyone at Route 1. I work across Commercial, Manufacturing & Engineering, and Transport & Logistics, right through to fully managed services including compliance and bespoke packages. Building lasting relationships is everything, and there's no better feeling than matching talent to opportunity and seeing people still thriving years later. Fun fact: I'm a raging Leeds United fan, and there's nowhere I'd rather be at the weekend than the pub cheering them on.

I've worked in recruitment since 2015 and joined Route 1 in November 2019. I started out looking after admin, payroll and credit control, then took the leap to the coal face and joined the Driving Division. That's grown over time, and I'm now involved in recruitment across all our divisions — no two days are ever the same. The market keeps changing and we're always learning and adapting, which is exactly what I enjoy most. I'm fairly new to recruitment — my background is HR, where I spent around ten years with a local independent care provider and completed my degree at Huddersfield. I've been Route 1's Outplacement Consultant since August 2020, and our testimonials show we do a good job, which I'm proud of. After spending years navigating the world of IT recruitment, I’ve since made the move into industrial recruitment, and I’m loving the change of pace! It’s a sector where no two days are the same, there’s always something happening, and somehow the days just seem to fly by.
